Cloth Diapering Update
Cross post from our baby blog (the gnluv blog)This post was supposed to be written back in August right after we prepped our batch of cloth diapers. The weekend I supposed to write the post was the weekend that G was born.I wanted to attempt cloth diapers, so A left the diaper research and plans to me. The idea of landfill waste due to disposable diapers makes me cringe and as we bring G into this world it’s even more important that we attempt to leave the world a better place for the next... read more
Our Home
In the beginning of last year we moved out of our loft in San Francisco and bought a single family home on the Peninsula. When we purchased this home it was like walking into history. It was built in 1978 and pretty much hadn't been touched since. Acoustic ceilings, orange shag carpeting and textured wallpaper throughout.

After we stripped out all the wallpaper and carpet, I saved a couple of pieces that I mounted into shadow boxes. The tactile experience is am must!!! It reminds us of how far we've come and it keeps a little bit of the house history in place.
The renovations
Our kitchen, Dining Room and Laundry Room
We just got done renovating our kitchen and dining room area. This was the only area of the house that was renovated in the 1990s. It still featured a very small oven, a Fugly fireplace, and the whole space was very dark.
[What it looked like before]
We opened up a passthrough to the living room. I spend time in the kitchen; he doesn't, and this is the way we can interact with each other. We ripped off the laminated floor, the carpet and installed bamboo flooring. We replaced all cabinets and appliances. The fireplace got a whole new facelift and we installed some much needed lighting.
Shane also insisted that we install filtered fauced that delivers really hot water, and filtered cold. In addition we have a petal operated sink, so as your hands are dirty or soapy you don't need to reach for the handle -- you just step on a pedal. It takes awhile to get adjusted to it, but in the end it's pretty cool!
The downstairs bathroom
The downstairs bathroom featured a lovely silvery-black and red velvet wallpaper. Needless to say it had to go :) We replaced the lighting, the countertop, sink and faucet. I also restained the cabinets to a dark ebony, from a medium brown.
The Master suite
We're renovated our master suite. We tore down the old bathroom and walk-in closet to make room for a spacier bathroom.
The bathroom itself was pretty tiny -- it had just enough space for a shower and a toilet. Next to it was the walk-in closet. On the outside was vanity on the right and a vanity+sink on the left.

We installed a double sink vanity (yey, I get a part all to my very self), a jetted tub, and a double head shower.
Some pics of the renovation progress
The master bedroom also got a facelift. The removed the wallpaper and carpeting and installed closet cabinets along the back wall. This space still needs some interior design and color. We haven't gotten there yet, but I hope soon.
