Cloth Diapering Update

Tue, 21 Oct 2008

Cross post from our baby blog (the gnluv blog)This post was supposed to be written back in August right after we prepped our batch of cloth diapers. The weekend I supposed to write the post was the weekend that G was born.I wanted to attempt cloth diapers, so A left the diaper research and plans to me. The idea of landfill waste due to disposable diapers makes me cringe and as we bring G into this world it’s even more important that we attempt to leave the world a better place for the next... read more

About Us

We met on an early Saturday morning in the office. I (Ava) was going through an intense four week training program for new college hires and HE was one of the project advisors. It was a full work day starting in the wee hours of the morning - not exactly a "cupid arrow" moment, especially considering the late night I had the previous evening with another company event.

We continued working side by side in a professional capacity for several weeks. Towards the middle of the program we had a team building activity where all the team participants went out for dinner. We had to switch tables every 30 minutes or so. By the end of the night we were at the same table sitting next to one another, realizing how much fun we had talking to each other. After dinner, in the span of 15 minutes... or about the time it took me to walk from Buca di Beppo to the Powell Bart station, I fell in love. With each progressive step, I kept thinking about what a cool person he was, and how much I enjoyed talking to him. By the time my train arrived I realized that I had a crush!

The following weeks were pretty hard. I wanted to know more about him and spend more time with him. However, seeing as he was my group's advisor we never had an opportunity to be alone, and as my training easily kept me in the office for over 70hr/week, those tasks were going to prove difficult. I couldn't make it obvious that I was interested, so I had to resort to getting my group to scout out some responses for me. The top two on the list? "Was he single?" (of course), and "Was he gay?".

Some days following, luck shined upon me as I was in the training room by myself wrapping up some project documentation. He walked in with a bag of McD's fries (his addiction at the time). Earlier that day a colleague had posted 4 tickets to see Moby in concert; playing the night after our project ended (I needed to wait until he wasn't my advisor any longer). It was fate! I asked him if he'd ever seen Moby live in concert, and if he was interested in going. He said 'Yes'.
Yes everybody, it was I who made the first move!!!

On the last night of the program we had our last team dinner. Following, Shane invited us back to his place. I finagled myself out of previous party plans I had that evening, and he offered me a ride to the train if I agreed to stay longer. As the rest of my group left, it was just me and him. He gave me a hug, and as it started to end I didn't pull away. Our lips met and the rest... as they say "Is history!"

We've been together since that September evening in 2000. In summer 2005, we made it official and got married. We live in a great house on the Bay Area Peninsula and have a wonderful and cuddly family.

As of recently, Shane completed his MBA. In the day-time he sits behind a desk at a pharmaceutical distribution company. In the meanwhile, Ava is gainfully employed at Yahoo! being a Product Manager.
